The Westchester County Human Rights Commission investigates allegations of discrimination in housing, employment, public accommodations, and credit lending. While the Commission investigates covered complaints of discrimination based on citizenship status, alienage and national origin, it does not provide an administrative process for immigration-related matters such as asylum or deportation. In an effort to provide information about individual rights regarding encounters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Commission has identified potential resources below.
For legal help
Call the Liberty Defense Project at (800) 566-7636. The Liberty Defense Project is administered by New York State. As per its website, all call information is confidential and that assistance is available in 200+ languages.
The Liberty Defense Project provides free legal consultations and screenings for immigrants throughout New York State; direct representation to immigrants in deportation proceedings as well as other cases; and help with filing immigration applications for naturalization, employment authorization, permanent residency, etc.
